Supreme whetstones made by Suehiro Japan. The Debado are splash and go stone, the SNE1200 Grit is considered a mid-grit stone and is an essential step in your knife sharpening process. These stones are much harder than the usual Suehiro stones, resulting in slow wear and minimal dishing.

The GlassStone series of sharpening stones uses a revolutionary design to provide great usability within a thin package formed from a combination of glass layers. The conventional image is that sharpening stones are large and heavy, but GlassStones are not only thin and light, but also strong, as layers of tempered glass are stuck together. GlassStones therefore have strong resistance to cracking or sudden breakage caused by external shocks such as being dropped.

Shapton stones do not need to be soaked except the very first time after purchase. We do recommend that on first use, you pre-soak the stone in water for five to six minutes to secure even smoother sharpening. Shapton stones do not need a Nagura Stone, and lapping with a Nagura Stone will leave the surface rough and ragged.

The Ikyu 1000 grit is definitely different from many other stones we stock. Due to it's unique production method and relatively secretive blend ratio, it feels coarser, cuts faster, and feels more like a natural stone compared to many other 1000 grits. 

It lays a fantastic base to progress to the Ikyu 3000, a blend of Mikawa Nagura and synthetic powder. It's extra thickness makes for a great value stone. These stones need to be soaked before use.

About the Natsuya

The Amakusa is a natural whetstone used at the start of a natural stone progression. They are of slighter higher hardness and are fast cutting.

When you're trying to achieve an ultra-precise edge, the slightest wobble or vibration can result in distortions in the blade. The GS Holder is heavy enough to use as a sharpening base, and its form gives it stability far higher than that of the GS Field Holder.

About the Ohira

This stone is a very fine, moderate hardness finishing stone around ~5000 grit. Simply splash and go, work up a slurry initially with firm pressure, then let the mud do the rest. 

Ohira is a little softer natural stone used to make the traditional kasumi finish that gives the cladding a cloudy, misty look. The stone produces slurry quickly and leaves an even finish on blades from laminated steels, creating visible contrast. It is very simple to use and its advantage is that it leaves very visible traces of previous sharpening on the blade, revealing all irregularities and low spots, in turn telling us which areas of the blade we should hone in on.

About the Ozuku

This stone is a very fine, hard finishing stone around ~10,000 grit. Simply splash and go, work up a slurry preferably with a Nagura stone, as this stone does not form a slurry quickly.

Named for the site of its origin, the Ozuku Japanese Natural Whetstone is a product of its homeland’s finest honing practices. Although the material used to produce these pieces comes from the same site, its depth means that there can be significant differences between individual stones. As a result, even though most of these stones fall within 8,000 to 12,000 grit, the actual grit size must be discovered through actual usage. Customers should bear in mind that these pieces are meant to be used along with nagura stones, which are rubbed atop their wet surfaces to produce an abrasive slurry.

Ozuku are mined in Kyoto Japan, one of the Higashi-mono, referring to a collection of five quarries famous since ancient times for their sharpening stones. Stones from Ozuku are renowned for their fine grain and exceptional hardness, though some examples can be too hard at times.
